The Coupe de France Has Some Insane Kit Rules

Update: The 2021-22 Coupe de France is in full swing, and with it we are greatly seeing the effects of the odd kit regulations of the FFF (French Football Federation).

All teams are wearing the same sponsors instead of their regular ones - Betfred or Crédit Agricole as main sponsor as well as sleeve and back of shirt sponsors.

Meanwhile, very many of the small teams are wearing the same Nike kits provided by the FFF. Marseille did wear a two-year-old teamwear kit in their first match.

Marseille Play in Old Puma Teamwear

The Coupe de France is France's most historic soccer competition, open for all French clubs. This does not prevent the French Football Federation (FFF) from having some strange equipment regulations for the tournament. Big thanks to Footpack for the investigation.

The 2021–22 Coupe de France is the 105th season of the main football cup competition of France. The competition is organized by the French Football Federation (FFF) and is open to all clubs in French football, as well as clubs from the overseas departments and territories (Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Réunion, Saint Martin, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon).

French Football Federation (FFF) Only Allow Five Different Kit Colors In 7th and 8th Rounds

In the 7th and 8th rounds of the Coupe de France, the FFF only authorizes five different colors for the clubs: white, red, blue, yellow, and green. Therefore, famous teams like EA Guingamp, Toulouse, and many others did not play in their traditional colors.

home teams are only allowed to wear white or red kits

The rules are even more strict - the home team must choose between white and red, while the away team has three options: blue, yellow, and green.

So, Toulouse FC didn't play with their purple jersey but with a yellow one. Nancy wore a blue kit.

The rule won't apply for further rounds of the cup

From the Round of 64 (9th Round), when all Ligue 1 teams enter the competition, the teams will be free again in their choice of color.

Most Amateur Teams Wear Streamlined Nike Kits Without Their Logos in Coupe de France

There is another thing that is special for France's cup. All the amateur teams who have chosen so are not wearing their own jerseys but streamlined kits provided by Nike from Round 3.

In fact, all teams (including PSG, Marseille, and all other teams) have to say to the FFF that they want to wear their own jerseys. If they would break the deadline of the FFF, they would be forced to wear streamlined kits for the rest of the competition.

All Teams Wear Streamlined Sponsors

What is also uncommon in the Coupe de France is that all teams have to wear streamlined Coupe de France sponsors. This affects PSG, Lyon, and all the others.
