Who Did it Best? Boca Juniors Away - Adidas vs Nike

  • Adidas 22-23 Away Kit: Adidas' new Boca Juniors away jersey design is very similar to the 2014-15 Nike away kit.
  • Nike 14-15 Away Kit: The Nike 14-15 away kit featured a white base with a balanced design using navy and golden yellow, including a central chest band with a golden center and navy borders.
  • Design Similarities: The Adidas and Nike designs share similar cuffs, collars and a chest band, although the coloring and shades differ slightly.

Boca Juniors 22-23 away jersey by Adidas was leaked recently. The design incorporates classic Boca away colours put together in a way that is strikingly similar to their 14-15 away shirt by Nike. The question is, who did it best?

Who Did it Best? Boca Juniors Away Kit - Nike vs Adidas

Boca Juniors have one of the most iconic and recognisable home kits in world football, so much so that it's hard for manufacturers to miss when producing a new one each season. The away shirt provides a little more room for variety, but generally features some combination of white, navy/blue, and yellow.

Adidas came up with a few stunners during their first stint as Boca sponsor in the late 80s and early 90s and have regularly taken inspiration from those days since they re-signed the club in 2020. Their 86-87 away shirt was the blueprint for their first away kit of their ongoing second spell with the club, which was hugely popular. For the 22-23 season design, it seems as though they were impressed by their Nike's 14-15 effort, which itself was based on their own first away shirt for Boca back in 1996, but given a more modern look.

The Boca Juniors 14-15 away shirt had a white base and balanced the distribution of navy and a golden shade of yellow very well, with inner layers providing a thin yellow border to the cuffs and collar. The central chest band wrapped the whole way around the shirt, with a golden centre and thick navy borders. Overall, a very tidy and well-proportioned jersey.

The leaked image of Adidas' Boca Juniors 22-23 away shirt shows a white base with the exact same style of cuffs and collar as the 14-15 kit. Adidas' Three Stripes on the shoulders add a bit more navy to the design, coupled with the chest band which is yellow only on the thin borders, the opposite of the Nike 14-15 shirt. We can't say yet if the band will be present on the back, as was the case with the Nike jersey.

Adidas also opted to continue using the retro CABJ lettering badge, while the shade of navy seems darker and the yellow a little less vibrant than what Nike used. These subtle differences aside, it cannot be denied that the two shirts are close to identical in many aspects.

So which shirt is better in your opinion? Nike or Adidas? let us know in the comments.
