More Popular Than Nike Nigeria 2018? Why the Adidas Mexico 2022 World Cup Away Kit is Practically Impossible to Get

One of the best kits of the 2022 World Cup is the Adidas Mexico 2022 away kit. However, if you want to get your hands on the shirt, you will certainly fail.

Mexico 2022 World Cup Kits Produced In Mexico - Not Available Outside Mexico Currently

The Adidas Mexico 2022 World Cup away jersey is not available on Adidas' official website in all countries, except Mexico. What is it reason for that?

First, it is important to know that the Mexico 2022 World Cup kits are not produced in Vietnam as (all?) other Adidas 2022 World Cup kits but in Mexico. This has been the case for several years. On Adidas' Korean website, this is confirmed. The country of origin for Mexico's kits is Mexico.

Mexico's kits are produced in Mexico because of Mexico's trade import rules on clothing from other countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam.

The home kit is also well-liked but not nearly as popular

But what are the reasons for Mexico's kit being not available outside Mexico? Let us find out - the resons are related, and they mainly exist because of the success of the kit.

1. Reason: Adidas Apparently Did Not Produce Enough Mexico Away Kits For Demand

First, Adidas did apparently did not produce enough Mexico away kits for the (extremely) high demand. Some sizes of the away kit are also sold out in Mexico. Meanwhile, the home kit is available in all sizes.

2. Reason: Adidas Did Not Expect Away Kit to Be So Popular Outside Mexico at All

For people outside Mexico, the problem is much, much bigger. Adidas did not send out nearly as many away jerseys as needed, both to independent retailers and their own warehouses. The demand outside Mexico is much higher than the supply.

3. (Not Confirmed) Reason: Less Profit - Production & Delivery of Mexico Kit Not as Cheap as From South East Asia

For us, it is likely that a third reason exists. Adidas did plan more conservatively with Mexico's kits than with others. The production in Mexico is surely more expensive than in South East Asia, so Adidas make less profit with the kit. If they would have produced way too many, it would be a sure money loss - Adidas only make money with the kit at prices close to the recommended retail price.

This is also supported by the fact that the similarly popular Japan 2022 kits are available everywhere.

There are restocks coming in November & December 2022

Meanwhile, the Mexico home kit is easily available to get. This is a clear indicator that Mexico's away kit is super popular and that Adidas did not expect enormous success.

We also checked if any independent retailers are selling the Mexico 2022 World Cup away kit. Outside Mexico, there is none.

Independent Mexican retailer Innovasport also has the Mexico kits in stock

However, there appears to be a chance that you can get your hands on the Mexico 2022 World Cup away kit, at least if you are living in Europe. Adidas say that the kit will be available Friday, November 18. The bad news is that this gives no certainty. In the past, a similar message appeared, but it never went on sale.

There is an indicator that there will be a huge restock in late December 2022. Soccer.com say that "the item is still in transit to their warehouse". You can Backorder the kit for "LATE DECEMBER".

Conclusion - Very Popular, But Likely Not as Much as Nigeria in 2018

So, is the Mexico 2022 World Cup away kit more popular than the Nigeria 2018 World Cup home kit? We don't think so, as there are other Adidas kits even higher rated than Mexico's, and because Nigeria's kit did produce much more media coverage. However, the Mexico 2022 World Cup away kit is even harder to get than Nigeria's was - at least as of today.
