Nike created a custom pair of boots for James Milner to mark reaching the milestone of 600 Premier League games at the weekend, but the veteran decided not to wear them for the occasion.
Custom Nike Boots for Milner's 600th Game
James Milner played his very first Premier League debut for Leeds 20 years ago and on Saturday, he came on as a sub for Liverpool to bring his tally of games in the league up to 600. Milner is only the fourth player to reach the milestone and as often happens when players achieve an impressive individual feat in the game, his boot sponsor Nike created a custom pair to celebrate.
A pair of Phantom GT2 Elite boots were given a white paintjob, with red lines recreating the St George's cross on the outside of the boot, while the instep and the Swoosh contain graphics in the colours of each club Milner has played for across his career. Silver XX and M numerals appear on the sides of the heel, and right at the back is the year 2002, when he played his first PL game. On the insole, a recap of all the trophies he's won.
Tech-wise, the Milner's custom Phantom GT Elite 2 soccer cleats are identical to the launch edition.
Nike Phantom GT 2 - Features
- Updated upper structure for superior grip and touch
- High-cut and low-cut versions
- Flyknit upper construction for close-to-ball feel
- Off-centre lacing for clean ball-striking
- Hyperquick system soleplate for agile movement
- All Conditions Control (ACC) technology
The man of the hour decided against wearing the special boots though, instead opting for the most standard release "Glacier Ice/Yellow Strike/Sunset Glow/Black" colourway. Not really too surprising from Milner, who is known as a solid, sensible player who seems happy to stay out of the limelight.
