Patrick to Remake Classic Roma 83-84 Kit

Sportswear brand Patrick are making a comeback and have revealed an upcoming remake of one of their classic AS Roma shirts from the 80s.

Patrick to Release Classic Roma Remake Shirt

Patrick started in France way back in 1892 and although they eventually faded into relative obscurity, they were a huge name in football in the 70s and 80s. They sponsored the likes of Kevin Keegan, Michel Platini and Brian & Michael Laudrup in their heyday, as well as making kits for a host of teams across Europe.

Without a doubt, the biggest club they partnered with was Roma. I Giallorossi wore Patrick shirts in their Scudetto-winning 82-83 campaign and for the first half of the following season, before switching to Kappa in January 1984.

The brand revealed at the weekend that they are launching a remake of the short-lived 83-84 shirt towards the end of next year to coincide with the shirt's 40 year anniversary. Check out the remake below.

The Patrick Roma 2083-84 remake jersey is more or less an exact copy of the original, carmine red with an orange collar and cuffs, tipped with the base colour. Patrick text replaces the original Barilla sponsor and there are a few other minor changes.

The original jersey was cotton, while the remake is polyester and the colouring of the Patrick logo has been updated. The absence of any Roma badge on the original means that Patrick can use the simple design without any copyright issues.

National flags cannot be trademarked, and the Scudetto is essentially the Italian flag applied to a shield shape, so Patrick should be able to sell the like-for-like shirt without needing permission from anyone. It will be interesting to see if Roma or new sponsor Adidas will have anything to say about it when they find out.
