Unrelated Football Clubs Sharing Similar Logos

Football clubs’ logo or crest has been an inseparable part of any team as it becomes one of their image and representation that also connects them with fans. For some teams, their iconic crest also managed to inspire other unrelated clubs to use or create an identical logo.

Big Clubs' Logos Often Inspire Unrelated Less-Known Teams

Normally, the big teams are often the ones that have their crest become an inspiration or template for clubs that are not even related to them. Real Madrid are one of those top sides that crest seems to inspire others as Bolivian club Real Potosi’s logo look very similar to Los Blancos’ one. Considering Carlo Anceloti’s side already used their iconic crown with a sash along with the FCM monogram since 1941, while Potosi were founded in 1988 it’s pretty clear where they got the inspiration for their logo.

Another big La Liga club whose crest apparently inspires many would be Barcelona as their logo is visibly similar to the Ecuador team, Barcelona SC. Notably, since the Ídolo del Astillero were founded by a Spaniard that comes from the city of Barcelona, the similarity might be understandable. Nevertheless, the teams don’t have any direct relation whatsoever.

However, the Ecuador giant are not the only team that have an identical badge to the Blaugrana as the Moroccan third division outfit, Fath Riadi de Nador also have a very similar crest. Naturally, FRN modified some details of the badge to add its own identity and not just directly copy Barca’s crest.

Not only in Spain, Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen also have a pretty inspiring crest as it seems to influence Bulgarian third-division outfit, Vihar Slavyanovo. Being founded 17 years after Leverkusen, Slavyanovo were not shy in showcasing how the German side inspire them. Both teams’ badges certainly look very identical aside from slight details in color.

Juventus Force a Team to Change Logo and Name Because of Similarity

In Italy, Juventus’ previous iconic logo, the shield with flag and zebra also inspire others, including the famous case of Daco-Getica București, which was formerly known as Juventus Bucuresti. Before 2018, the Romanian side have a very similar logo and name to the Serie A outfit which forces the latter to file their complaint. The Bianconeri eventually made the Daco-Gets change their name and club’s badge starting from the 2018-2019 season. Ironically, Juventus have also changed the iconic zebra badge into the current J letter from 2017 to this date.

In the Premier League, Bournemouth might not be one of the top sides in that competition but they still inspire AFC Uttara in terms of the team logo. The Bangladesh club’s crest looks pretty much identical to The Cherries, as there’s only a slight difference in some of the color details.

Aside from Bournemouth, Crystal Palace also find their current badge has a striking similarity with an amateur German team, SpG Rasen/ Antholz.

There are certainly plenty of other clubs with identical logos despite not having any relations at all across the globe. Nevertheless, despite the similarity, there’s always a slight difference in terms of details, especially from clubs that are inspired.

What do you think about the number of unrelated teams that share identical logos? Do you know more teams with similar badges? Comment below.
