Puma Want to Make Barcelona Kit
- Puma Interest: Puma is actively pursuing a deal to become FC Barcelona's kit manufacturer, potentially starting from the 2025-26 season.
- Nike Order Issues: Barcelona has missed order deadlines with Nike for the 2024-25 season, causing tension and indicating potential problems in their partnership.
- Nike's Cost Cutting: Nike is implementing significant cost-cutting measures, potentially influencing their approach to their partnership with Barcelona.
The tensions between Nike and FC Barcelona are reportedly getting bigger, while Puma would have started an offense to become Barça's new kit maker. This is according to reports of Foot Mercato and Mundo Deportivo.
Barça "missed" two order slots for the 2024-25 season
Nike and Barcelona have a contract worth 100 million Euro per season, with potential bonuses up to 155 million Euro, until 2028.
Barça Have not Placed Any Orders For Nike 24-25 Products as Only Elite Club
According to Foot Mercato, Barça have not yet placed orders for next season, which makes them the only big Nike club in this situation. Foot Mercato say "The point of no return was reached very recently when Barça missed two order slots".
Meanwhile, Puma "are pressing the hardest lately to replace Nike" from the 2025-26 season, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. Still, the 2024-25 Barça kits would surely be made by Nike due to logistical reasons.
Mundo Deportivo say that there have been severe problems with Nike products in the past two seasons. This includes a lack of stock of different sizes of Barça first team shirts in stores. In 2020, the replica edition of the home kit could not be sold in the month of July because the shirts were fading.
Nike want to save 2 billion US Dollar in the next three years
Last week, Nike announced plans for cost-cutting measures to save up to $2 billion over the next three years, including layoffs and more automation. The company also slashed their annual sales forecast to only 1%. This sent their own stock price down.
