Moire usually occurs when a scene or object being photographed contains repeating patterns that exceed the resolution of the sensor. So it is often created by superimposing two 'grids' of images, creating moiré.

The classic 1977-1989 Juventus zebra crest has a design of parallel lines. Overlapping another grid of parallel lines creates a moire effect and the zebra creates a running movement.
