PSG Only Wore Gold Intercontinental Cup Badge Once in Ligue 1

  • Limited Badge Usage: PSG wore the Intercontinental Cup winners' gold badge in only one Ligue 1 match this season, despite winning the trophy in December.
  • Inconsistent Application: The badge was displayed in a January league match and the Supercup but removed for the subsequent Ligue 1 match, while continuing to be worn in the Champions League.
  • Possible LFP Regulations: The inconsistent badge usage may be due to Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) regulations regarding trophy badges in domestic competition.

PSG have only worn their Intercontinental Cup winners' gold badge in one Ligue 1 match this season, despite winning the trophy in December. The club displayed the badge during their January 4th league match and the January 8th Supercup, but removed it for their second Ligue 1 match on January 16th, while continuing to wear it in the Champions League on January 20th.

PSG Intercontinental Cup Badge Usage

The reason for the inconsistent badge usage remains unknown, though it may be related to Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) regulations regarding trophy badges in domestic competition. FIFA allows Intercontinental Cup winners to wear the badge for one year, similar to old Club World Cup winners, but individual leagues can have their own rules about displaying international honors. PSG's decision to wear it in UEFA competitions but not consistently in Ligue 1 suggests possible restrictions from the French league, though neither the club nor the LFP have officially commented on the matter.

The Premier League used to allow teams to wear the gold Club World Cup badge for one match only, but changed their rules recently.
