Portuguese giants SL Benfica have officially presented an updated club crest. Club president Rui Costa revealed the refreshed emblem during the club's General Assembly (Assembleia Geral) on Saturday morning at the Estádio da Luz complex.
This photo shows the updated SL Benfica crest displayed on the arena screens at the Estádio da Luz.
The update is the direct result of the club's revised statutes approved by members (sócios) in March 2025. Rather than undergoing a radical, corporate-style rebrand, Benfica opted for a respectful refinement that honors the club's heritage while restoring traditional details long requested by supporters.
Updated Benfica Crest
The most notable change on the updated crest involves the iconic eagle, whose talons now firmly grasp the green and red ribbon bearing the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". In previous versions, the eagle sat on a perch above the ribbon. Additionally, the bicycle wheel rim, its spokes, and the classic laced leather football have all transitioned from silver-white to a rich golden yellow.
The core historical elements remain untouched: the halved red and white shield, dating back to the foundation of Sport Lisboa in 1904, still takes center stage with the diagonal blue sash reading "S.L.B.". By uniting the golden wheel of Grupo Sport Benfica with the eagle grasping the banner, the emblem now adheres strictly to the official visual description defined in the club's rulebook.
The new crest will first appear on the club's new member cards distributed after the ongoing membership renumbering process in November 2026. Benfica confirmed that the new visual identity will be phased in gradually across official club touchpoints, stadium facilities, and future kit collections.
