The Bundesliga and Topps have officially announced a brand-new initiative for the 26-27 season with the introduction of the "Startelfdebüt-Patch" (1st Start Debut Patch). Starting from matchday 1 on August 28, 2026, any player making their very first starting XI appearance in the German top flight will wear a specialized sleeve patch on their shirt.
Bundesliga 26-27 Debut Sleeve Badge
Positioned on the right sleeve directly beneath the official Bundesliga league or champions badge, the patch features the wording "1st START" with a brick pattern in the background. Applied using a special match-grade adhesive, the patch is designed to be worn for the player's full debut start and carefully removed by kit managers after the final whistle.
Following the match, each worn patch is authenticated and embedded into an exclusive, 1-of-1 hand-signed Topps relic trading card. This makes the Bundesliga the first big European football league to adopt the debut patch concept, following similar programs successfully introduced across MLB, MLS, NBA, and NFL.
The first batch of unique collectible cards containing these debut badges is scheduled for release in Topps Bundesliga Chrome collections in spring 2027.
