River Plate 125th Anniversary Kit Gifted to Lionel Messi
River Plate president Stefano Di Carlo met with Messi in the stadium's executive offices to formally welcome him as a Socio Honorario (honorary member) of the club.
Alongside the honorary status, Messi was given an official membership card inscribed with the reference code "ARG18122022" in celebration of the 2022 World Cup triumph, as well as an engraved silver commemorative plaque.
The centerpiece of the presentation was River Plate's special 125th anniversary jersey, customized with "MESSI" and his iconic number 10 on the back. The shirt, produced by Adidas to celebrate River's milestone anniversary in 2026, features a classic off-white base crossed by the club's traditional red diagonal sash.
The customization on the back stands out with bold black retro typography, completed by faux-stitching details running along the contours of the number 10. The understated, vintage look of the font pays homage to the historic kits worn throughout the Millonario's rich 125-year history.
The Monumental has served as the primary home for the Argentina national team throughout Messi's international career, where the Argentine maestro has produced countless memorable performances. The club's gesture marks a classy sign of respect from the Buenos Aires powerhouse to one of the game's greatest ever players.
