A Detailed Look At The Boots Of The 2014 UEFA Champions League Quarter Final

The Football Boots of the 2014 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals - ahead of the UEFA Champions League matches we take a look at the boots which will be worn by the world's best players with a focus on the boot line-ups. While Adidas just unveiled new boot colorways to debut in the Champions League (Adidas Earth Pack), Nike's player will wear the football boots from the Nike 2014 Summer Football Boot Collection.

Of course we will also take a look on the smaller brands Puma and Warrior, who managed to sign some top-class players to showcase their latest soccer cleats.

The fixtures: Manchester United - Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona - Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid - Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain - Chelsea.

Manchester United - Bayern München Boot Line-Ups

In the 2014 UEFA Champions League match between Manchester United and Bayern Munich we will see two completely different boot line-ups dominated by the two big football brands. While Adidas only managed to sign two players of the possible Manchester United line-up (Shinji Kagawa and Phil Jones), six ManU players will wear Nike boots against Bayern Munich: Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Alexander Büttner (Hypervenom), David de Gea, Valencia (Tiempo Legend V) and Rafael (CTR).

Michael Carrick and Nemanja Vidic will wear the Puma evoPOWER, while Fellanini will step in the Warrior Gambler Football Boot.

The FC Bayern München squad is traditionally dominated by Adidas players - Whereas four players will wear Nike's Soccer Cleat silos (Franck Ribéry, Mario Mandžukić, Rafinha and Jerome Boateng), we will see seven players wearing Adidas boots. The most popular boot choice in the UEFA Champions League match against Manchester United is the Adidas Adizero (Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjen Robben and David Alaba), while Toni Kroos will again wear the fourth generation of the Adidas Adipure boot (thanks to Konrad).

FC Barcelona - Atlético Madrid Boot Line-Ups

With the injury of Victor Valdes, FC Barcelona goalkeeper Pinto will wear his black Warrior Gambler boot in the match against the Spanish rival Atlético. The possible FC Barcelona line-up is dominated by Adidas and Nike with Messi wearing his signature and extremely colorful Adidas Adizero 2014 Messi Boot, while Neymar will step in the latest Nike Hypervenom paint job. Cesc Fábregas will be the only player to wear the Puma evoPOWER, while the possible line-up is mixed up with several different boot silos.

Although Nike are the kit supplier of Atlético Madrid, the possible boot line-up against FC Barcelona includes two Nike players only, who are both wearing the red Nike CTR 2014 Boot: Arda Turan and Thibaut Courtois. The whole line-up is dominated by Adidas players, including the superstar Diego Costa, who just signed with Adidas. Seven of eleven Atlético players will wear Adidas Boot against Barcelona and two players will wear Puma Football Shoes.

Real Madrid - Borussia Dortmund Boot Line-Ups

Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund meet again the 13-14 Champions League Quarter Finals, after Dortmund last year won the Semi Final encounter between the two teams.

The expected Real Madrid lineup features two of the greatest footballers on the planet in Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale who both received special boots by their suppliers Nike and Adidas, respectively. While Bale is currently sporting the Adidas F50 Adizero Crazylight, which is the lightest boot ever weighting only 135 grams, Balon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo will continue to wear the Mercurial Vapor IX Fast Forward '10 Edition, reminding the world of his great displays at the South Africa World Cup four years ago.

Generally, Real Madrid's current starting-11 only features players signed by the two big players Adidas and Nike, with 6 Adidas and 5 Nike players. The most popular boots withing the Real Madrid team are the Nike Tiempo Legend and the Adidas Adizero with 3 players each.

The Borussia Dortmund has been weakened by injuries this term and for the match against Real Madrid it will be no different - injured or suspended Jakub Błaszczykowski, Ilkay Gündogan, Robert Lewandowski, Marcel Schmelzer and Neven Subotic all usually have secured spots in the Dortmund lineup. Especially the yellow card suspension of Hypervenom-wearer Robert Lewandowski, who netted three goals in last year's euphoric 4-1 first leg win over Madrid, hit the Germans hard.

The improvised Dortmund lineup features players from Adidas, Nike and Puma, who are also the official shirt supplier of the club. Marco Reus, expected to play as center forward in Lewandowski's absence, and goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller both wear the Puma Evopower range. Other than that the center block of the team is dominated by Adidas-sponsored players, while the midfield front-3 and both full backs wear Nike Hypervenom and Mercurial Vapor boots, fitting well with the teams fast counter attacking play.

PSG - Chelsea Boot Line-Ups

The likely most open-ended match in the UEFA Champions League 2014 quarter-finals is again dominated by the two big brands Adidas and Nike. PSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovich will wear the Nike Mercurial Vapor 06Mercurial as only player from the possible Paris SG line-up, while the two central defenders boot choices offer a perfect boot chemistry with the Nike CTR Boot (Thiago Silva and Alex). Thiago Motta will be the only player this quarter-finals to wear a boot of the Japanese brand Mizuno with a Nike and Puma player next to him.

As winger you need speed, and both Paris Saint Germain wingers made the perfect speed choice with one of the lightest boots, the Adidas Adizero Glow Earth Boot edition.

The Chelsea defence in the possible line-up is splitted in the Adidas Adizero and the Nike Tiempo Legend V. Like the defence, the Chelsea midfield with players such as Oscar (Predator), Hazard (Mercurial) and Ramires (Tiempo Legend) is also shared between Adidas and Nike, whose fight for the best players is hitting the peak currently. Unlike the other matches, we won't see any special boot worn in the match between Chelsea and Paris.

The UEFA Champions League quarter-finals football boots

To conclude this different angle on the Champions League quarter final matches, it can be said that the boots market is strongly dominated by the giants Adidas and Nike, with 38 boots each in our overview, while Puma also has a fair share of the players under contract. Other brands are almost non-existent on this level, with 3 players sponsored by Mizuno and Warrior being the exception.

The Adidas Adizero silo dominates the other boot branches, due to the uneven distribution between the Adidas boot lines. The Adizero is worn by 17 players, while the Nitrocharge and the Adipure boots are only used 7 and 5 times, respectively. The Predator is the second most used Adidas boot with 11 players wearing them. Three Nike silos (CTR360, Mercurial Vapor and Tiempo Legend) contribute around 10 players each, while the Hypervenom, which was introduced last year, accounts for 6.
