French Club RC Lens Announce Umbro Kit Deal

RC Lens yesterday announced that they signed a new kit contract with the Double Diamond brand Umbro to become the shirt supplier from the 2014-2015 season. RC Lens are currently placed second in the Ligue 2 and are trying to gain promotion to play in the Ligue 1 from the 2014-15 season.

Last season's RC Lens kits were made by the German brand Adidas, while Umbro was the kit supplier of the French club in the late 1990s, when they wrote history winning the Ligue 1 title in 1998. Umbro also managed to sign a kit contract with Premier League club Everton.

RC Lens and Umbro Sign Four Years Kit Deal

Umbro and RC Lens signed a four years contract until 2018. Gervais Martel, president of RC Lens, commented:

'In the heart of all fans Umbro remains associated with the most successful club era. Our Ligue 1 championship in 1998, our success in the 1999 League Cup and our epic nights in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup. Therefore it's a pleasure to announce the partnership with Umbro for the upcoming seasons.'

Patrick Noel, the Umbro license holder for the French territory highlighted the similarities of both brands having a rich past and a promising future as well as the long experience of Umbro designing football kits. He also announced that the new RC Lens 14-15 Kits will be modern, stylish and unique.

Argentina World Cup Kit Font History: Every Number Style Showcased

A fascinating new graphic created by football designer @PaladarNegroWeb showcases the complete evolution of the typography used on the Argentina national team kits across their FIFA World Cup history. The overview provides a direct look at how the squad numbers have transformed over the decades, highlighting the shift in design philosophies from tournament to tournament.

The visual comparison clearly illustrates the transition from the simple, classic block numbers of the past to the highly customized typefaces of the modern era. Fan reactions to the historical overview often favor the iconic, traditional fonts seen during the 1978, 1986, and 1990 World Cups. In contrast, the more experimental and uniform designs introduced by Adidas in recent tournaments, particularly the fonts used in 2010, 2018, and 2022.

Typography plays a crucial role in the overall aesthetic and historical memory of a football shirt. This comprehensive look at Argentina's World Cup numbers serves as a great reminder of how font choices can define a specific era of football, allowing fans to easily pinpoint exactly which tournament a classic jersey belongs to based on the style of the player's number.
