Nike Offers up to €100 Million a Year to Renew with FC Barcelona

Nike is ready to pay up to €100 million a year to remain FC Barcelona shirt sponsor beyond 2018, Spanish sports daily AS is reporting.

FC Barcelona to Sign €100 Million a Year Nike Kit Deal?

Nike is set to continue as FC Barcelona kit supplier (pictured: FC Barcelona 16-17 kit).

Nike became FC Barcelona kit supplier in 1998, with the initial deal being worth around €120 million over ten years. It was later renegotiated a few times, with the current agreement between the club and Nike being worth approximately €35 million a year, plus added revenue from merchandise sales, until the end of the 2017-18 season.

Following the recent developments in the sponsorship department, with Manchester United receiving about €94 million a year over a ten-year period from Adidas and Real Madrid reportedly being close to signing an similarly high valued extension with the German brand, Barcelona felt the current Nike contract was undervalued. Nike's offer for an contract extension is reported to be worth €85 million a year, with added incentives set to raise the value to around €100 million.

AS goes on to state that, while negotiations are going well and the relationship between both entities are good, a few things are yet to be discussed. That includes both the duration of the new Nike FC Barcelona contract, as well as how to handle the situation of the Camp Nou store, currently all but under full control of Nike.
