Adidas Messi 16+ PureAgility - Silver Metallic / Core Black / Shock Blue
This image is the first to show the (almost) laceless Adidas Messi PureAgility soccer boots.
Predominantly silver, the new Adidas Messi 16+ PureAgility cleats feature a metallic shimmer finish and the same honeycomb-like upper texture known from the Adidas Messi 16.1 boot variant. Similar to the next-gen Adidas X 2016 boots, the silver Adidas Messi PureAgility football boots come with a highly noticeable seam across the forefoot, while the heightened techfit collar and the almost laceless construction are also similar to the Adidas X 16+.
Contrasting the metallic-like upper, the collar part of the Adidas Messi 16+ cleats is blue, with a subtle graphic pattern present as well. Fitting in well with the rest of the design of the Adidas Messi PureAgility 2016 football boots are the Adidas stripes, colored black and positioned along the outside rear. A highly interesting look overall, the Silver Metallic Adidas Messi 16+ cleats are completed with a sole plate of the same color, albeit with an even more pronounced chrome effect.
Tech-wise, the new Adidas Messi 16+ PureAgility soccer cleats bring an (almost) laceless concept to the second generation of the Adidas Messi football boot silo which sees most of the lacing covered by an layer. Generally, the Adidas Messi 16+ feature a lightweight concept with a flexible upper and a sole plate engineered for unrivaled speed and acceleration. The upper of the new Adidas Messi PureAgility 2016 cleats is quite different from that of the first generation and aims to provide a sock-like feel and superior lockdown, dubbed "Agilityknit".
The sole plate of the Adidas Messi 16+ boots is designed for agility. It includes 11, more or less triangular, studs of similar height that are aligned in a fairly standard configuration.
Available from May 24, the silver Adidas Messi 16+ football boots retail at $300 in men's sizes. A kids' version is also available, at a mere $150.

Good or Bad? Rexona Armpit Sponsorship on 2026 World Cup Referee Shirts
Update - Tuesday, June 23, 2026: Following our publication, Rexona contacted us to provide additional context on the activation.
According to Ben Curtis, Global Brand Vice President for Rexona at Unilever, the sponsorship is intended to highlight fourth officials, who "may not always be the focus of attention but are at the centre of some of football's most intense and anticipated moments," as part of Rexona's "It Won't Let You Down" campaign during the FIFA World Cup 2026. "They need to remain cool and calm under pressure - That's exactly why this partnership is such a natural fit for Rexona."
The 2026 World Cup referee shirts feature one of the most amusing and strategic sponsorship placements seen in football. Deodorant brand Rexona has their logo positioned directly under the armpits of the match officials' jerseys, creating a highly contextual advertising opportunity.
The Rexona logo remains largely hidden during regular play but becomes clearly visible whenever a referee raises their arms to signal a free kick, award a penalty, or issue a card. This placement perfectly matches the deodorant product being advertised, resulting in a memorable piece of marketing on the sport's biggest stage.
While this specific placement has caught the attention of fans during the 2026 tournament, it is not entirely unprecedented. A similar concept was previously executed in Brazil, where Avanço deodorant sponsored the armpits of Corinthians. However, Rexona's execution at a World Cup brings the clever concept to a massive global audience.
