2017-18 Brasileirão Kit Battle - Adidas & Umbro Heavily Dominate, Nike Loses Almost All Teams In Brazil

After we have already given you an overview about the different kit brands in several European leagues (Bundesliga, La Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Süper Lig), we thought it would be time to give a look at the jersey manufactures of a league outside Europe - the Brazilian first division, simply known as Brasileirão.

The brand making the kits for the most clubs in the Brazilian first division is not Adidas or Nike but Umbro, who managed to sign seven different Brazilian first division clubs. Interestingly, the brand made the jerseys for no Brazilian first division club when Nike sold them to the Iconix Brand Group in 2012, while they since then became the leading Brasileirão kit supplier.

Adidas is the brand with the second most teams in the Brasileirão, including Brasileirão giants Flamengo, Coritiba and Palmeiras. Brazilian brand Topper comes third with three teams, while Under Armour has Fluminense and Sao Paulo under contract.

Nike, who are together with Adidas the most relevant kit maker in almost every important league worldwide, just make the kits for one Brasileirão club after SC Internacional was relegated. In 2014, the Swoosh was the official kit supplier for five Brasileirão teams, while they lost Bahia (now Umbro), Coritiba (now Adidas) and Santos (now Kappa) since then.

Umbro with seven clubs, Adidas with five clubs and Nike with just one team. What do you think of this? Let us know in the comments below.
