No More Nike: SC Internacional Announce Adidas Kit Deal
Adidas will replace Nike as kit maker of Brazilian club SC Internacional from 1 January 2020. The Brazilian club and global sportswear giant announced their deal yesterday, confirming previous rumors.
According to InterDados, who broke the story initially, the deal between Adidas and Internacional, which will begin in January 2020, will run for an initial three years, until the end of the 2022.
Adidas had been already making Internacional's kits 20 years ago. The three-stripe brand will supply the jerseys for four important Brazilian teams next season: Cruzeiro, Internacional, Flamengo and Sao Paulo. At the moment, Nike only have Corinthians for next season.
According to the president of the International, Marcelo Medeiros, the decision was taken after evaluating all options in the best interests of the club. "We held several meetings with various sports material suppliers, and adidas, Inter's historical partner, was the one that pleased us the most. In addition, we have a close relationship with the fans and we know their desires. The opinions of the fans weighed heavily in our choice," says Medeiros.
Inter and adidas resume the partnership after more than 15 years. "For us, it is a pride to resume the partnership with one of the most admired and desired brands in the world. Together, we have already won many victories. It's one more inspiration for us to look for the titles", he says.
The change also comes to increase the availability of products - a frequent demand from fans. Another novelty will come with the expansion of the portfolio: new items will be incorporated, providing more variety for fans.
"We are very honored with the return of the three stripes to the colored uniform, world champion. Inter is one of the largest teams in the country and its fans are as passionate as few are in the world," says adidas' senior marketing director, Daniela Valsani.
