All-New Logo From 2019-20 - Full Serie A Logo History

The Italian Serie A totally surprisingly revealed an all-new visual identity last week. What made the reveal of the all-new Serie A logo so surprising was that the league had just revealed a new logo ahead of the start of the 2018-19 season, in August 2018. We take a look at the full Serie A logo history.

Serie A Logo History

While the Italian Serie A was already established in 1898, the first actual Serie A logo was not released before 1996. Previously, the league just used a modified version of the FIGC (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio - Italian Football Federation) logo.

The 1996 Serie A logo was the first 'real' logo of the Lega Calcio, introduced for the 50th anniversary of the professional league that came back after the end of World War II. The next big update to the logo was made in 2006, mainly due to the TIM league's sponsorship.

In 2010, Serie A introduced another whole new logo that brought back the colors of the Italian flag, while in 2018-19 the league revealed another new logo that should be used for just one year.

The all-new Serie A 2019-2020 logo is described by the league is designed to strengthen the centrality of the "A". It "represents a diamond, perfect and precious, full of facets that increase its value and symbolize the teams and champions that make our Championship unique. At the base, the perspective from the bottom draws an inverted pyramid, the tip of which rests ideally on the tricolour strip that separates the logo from the name Serie A."

With the new Serie A logo having been revealed last week, we will also see a new Serie A sleeve badge from the 2019-2020 season. The Serie A 2019-2020 sleeve badge has not been revealed yet.

All in all, it can be said that the Serie A did not have a really great branding and consistent branding over the years, especially with the logo heavily influenced by sponsors. It remains to be seen if the new logo will become a trademark for the league.
