Why Portugal Is Not Licensed In FIFA 21 - PES 2021 Portugal Deal Announced

Have you also wondered why the Portuguese national team is not licensed in FIFA 21 anymore? Now we know why - the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) today announced an agreement with KONAMI for a strategic partnership that includes FPF brand in the video game eFootball PES 2021.

In contrast to FIFA 20, Portugal is not licensed in FIFA 21. This means FIFA 21 does not include the real kits and other things like the federation crest.

KONAMI Announces Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) Partnership

According to the press release, "this partnership joins together two global brands, allowing eFootball to excel on a greater global scale. The European champion’s team, that includes some of the biggest and most talented players on the planet, now have the opportunity to take on a new inspiring platform".

The partnership also embraces a new set of esports activities. Cidade do Futebol (FPF headquarters) may receive and host KONAMI approved international competitions or events. Consequently, FPF eFootball has all the conditions to consider itself as a real innovation lab regarding the development and evolution of eFootball.

Nuno Moura, CMO of FPF, believes this partnership will bring and reinforce the FPF brand to thousands of virtual football fans around the world: “FPF have one of the most advanced eFootball projects in the world, we are delighted to collaborate with Konami globally and serve as an innovation platform that will help unveil the future of this sport. More than just entertainment or competition, we are developing a grassroots ecosystem that will bring players and fans alike closer than ever before to the sport they love, whether it be played on a console or at the stadium, in an absolute complementary manner. We will engage the next generation of football fans worldwide and find new methods to drive participation, we truly believe this collaboration can produce game-changing results for the whole football industry.”

Jonas Lygaard, Senior Director – Brand & Business Development at Konami Digital Entertainment, B.V. commented, “We are humbled and grateful that the FPF shares our vision for eFootball and is leading the way for other national football federations to follow. With the upcoming eEURO 2021 tournament and more on the horizon, we are confident that the partnership between our two organizations will provide further validation for this growing sport”.
