AS Monaco to Remake 99-00 Kappa Kit

AS Monaco and Kappa are to release a remake of the club’s title-winning 99-00 home kit as a result of a vote open only to Socios Fan Token holders.

Kappa to Remake Classic Monaco 99-00 Home Shirt

Supporters who had purchased $ASM Fan Tokens were given the choice of three shirts to choose from, with the winner of the vote to be remade in time for the 22-23 season. The remake will not be the club’s home shirt for the season, but a special edition available to buy.

The other two options were the 98-99 home kit or a mainly white training jersey from the 99-00 season. Interestingly enough, the 99-00 training jersey received more likes on AS Monaco’s Twitter post than the eventual winner.

The winning 99-00 jersey features Monaco's unique diagonal half red half white design, as well as the iconic Kappa taping down the sleeves and something of an unusual elasticated collar. It was worn by players such as David Trezeguet, John Arne Riise, Rafael Marquez, Fabien Barthez,Ludovic Giuly and Marco Simone as the principality club beat PSG to the Ligue Un title by seven points.

AS Monaco also held a vote for Fan Token holders to decide on the sleeve patch to be worn against PSG on the 2nd of March, with this design by artist Nairone Defives coming out on top

What Are Fan Tokens?

A Fan Token is a digital asset created on a blockchain that grants its owner access to exclusive services that sports organisations provide to their fans through the app Socios.com. AS Monaco are one of a number of big European clubs to have partnered with Socios to produce Fan Tokens, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Inter, Arsenal, AS Roma, Galatasaray and Sevilla among others also selling them. Inter and Valencia feature their Fan Token logo as their main shirt sponsor this season.

The big selling point of these tokens, which are essentially a type of cryptocurrency, is that they give fans a say in the club decisions and offer them exclusive content that is not accessible without tokens. Some people may argue that fans shouldn’t have to pay for some of these privileges, but Socios will be hoping that with schemes like this Fan Tokens will become a must-have in the eyes of supporters.
