Nike Tease Their World Cup Advert: Full Version Coming 16th November

Nike have released a short trailer for their upcoming World Cup ad, starring Kylian Mbappè, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho among others.

Nike World Cup Ad Teased

World Cup ads from the big brands are part and parcel of the tournament build up, with Nike responsible for some of the most memorable ones. The Brazil team at the airport in 1998 and in the changing room in 2006, the cage tournament in 2002 and their "Write the Future" campaign in 2010 cast Nike's biggest stars as the protagonists with some interesting cameos always thrown into the mix. This morning, they gave us the first look at their latest offering, "The FootballVerse".

The 30 second trailer is set in a Swiss lab and reveals that the concept for this year's edition is a high tech experiment to settle a debate between a pair of scientists: who is better, 2022 Mbappé or 2006 Ronaldinho? The equipment is set up, a lever is pulled, and out pop present day Mbappé and 2006 era Ronaldinho, dressed in his Barca kit. Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo also turns up, presumably to prove that he is clearly better than both of them, while other legends from today and yesteryear will no doubt also appear in the full length version.

Nike are mixing the past, present and future to appeal to as many generations as possible while playing on the far-fetched possibilities of technology and the common, impossible comparisons between past and current players. The three main men here have been - or will be in Mbappé's case - considered the best in the world at some stage of their careers. In harking back to the glory days of Ronaldinho they are indulging in nostalgia, another essential World Cup ingredient. They'll be hoping that this factor will help the ad last as long in the memories as some of its predecessors from the age of television did, before their impact was dampened by the internet.

The full ad will be released on the 16th of November, a few days before the tournament starts. Do you have high hopes for this one having seen the trailer?
