1990s Vibes: French Club FC Versailles Signs Kit Deal With Konbini

French third-division club FC Versailles has announced a partnership with Konbini, a leading digital pop culture medium in France. While a sponsorship deal in France's third division would not normally create much of a stir, the look of the logo on the shirts quickly made the deal go viral in France.

Konbini is a reference to the Japanese Konbini, a convenience store open 24 hours a day. It is a French online media founded in Paris in 2008 by David Creuzot and Lucie Beudet.

FC Versailles Announces Deal With Konbini

The FC Versailles partnership aims to combine sport, entertainment, and popular culture, targeting the age group of 18-30 year-olds.

As part of the collaboration, FC Versailles players will wear the Konbini logo on their jerseys. The colorful logo evokes memories of some of the most famous sponsors of the 1990s, e.g. the Faber Bochum kit.

The partnership aims to create a strong and engaged community that resonates with the preferences of the Gen Z population. The projects include "hyper-accessibility through affordable ticket prices for those under 25", reflecting Konbini's commitment to making its content freely available to the younger generation.

Konbini appeared on the sleeves of Lyon's kit in the 2020-21 season. The deal is similar to the partnership of Red Star FC and Vice, a youth magazine.
