Real Madrid reportedly has a clear succession plan for their legendary No. 10 shirt. According to a report from the Spanish newspaper AS, the club intends to offer the iconic number to Kylian Mbappé, starting from the 2025-2026 season.

The move is seen by the club as a major promotional and marketing opportunity. Giving the No. 10, one of the most commercially valuable numbers in football, to their marquee player makes perfect business sense.
This also aligns perfectly with Mbappé's international identity, as he famously wears the No. 10 for the French national team, where he is the captain.
Interestingly, the report from AS notes that the final decision will ultimately rest with Mbappé himself. After a full season establishing himself with the No. 9, he will have the choice to either step into the legacy of the No. 10 or continue building his own story with the number 9 on his back at Real Madrid.
For his debut 2024-2025 season, Mbappé will wear the No. 9 shirt. The current holder of the No. 10, club legend Luka Modrić, will retain his number for the duration of the season, including at the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
