Barcelona to Sign Deal With Democratic Republic of the Congo - Logo Might Appear Once on Kit

FC Barcelona is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a sponsorship agreement with the Ministry of Sports of the Democratic Republic of Congo, aimed at promoting tourism through the 'Visit Congo, the heart of Africa' campaign. Sponsorship expert Łukasz Bączek also covered the story.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently facing a complex and escalating humanitarian crisis, primarily in the eastern part of the country, fueled by ongoing conflict and violence. A major factor is the intensified fighting between the M23 rebel group and the Congolese army. Therefore, the new sponsorship deals come at an inopportune time.

FC Barcelona Visit Congo Deal

The FC Barcelona Visit Congo deal is expected to span 3 to 4 years and would be worth €10 million per season. The Visit Congo (DRC - Heart of Africa) branding will feature on the sleeves of Barcelona’s youth and basketball teams, with a €5 million bonus set to be paid if the club wears the slogan on the front of their shirts for a match.

Due to Barça’s existing sleeve sponsorship with Philips (promoting the Ambilight TV brand) for the first team, the Congo campaign will not feature on the senior squad’s regular kits.

The DR Congo Ministry of Sports is expanding its visibility across European football, having signed with AC Milan and AS Monaco.
