Liverpool's New Signings Wear Temporary High Shirt Numbers in Pre-Season - Official Numbers to Be Announced with Adidas Launch?

  • Temporary Shirt Numbers: Liverpool's new signings are wearing unusually high, temporary shirt numbers during pre-season games as the club finalizes its squad list.
  • Adidas Kit Launch: The official squad numbers are expected to be announced with the launch of the Adidas kit deal on August 1, 2025.
  • Kit Font Issues: Liverpool is using unique fonts for their Asian pre-season games, with one font being virtually invisible.

Liverpool has handed their summer signings unusually high shirt numbers during their pre-season fixtures, with the club yet to finalise its official squad list for the 2025-26 campaign.

Temporary Liverpool 25-26 Pre-Season Numbers

Florian Wirtz, who had hoped to take the iconic number 10 jersey currently occupied by Alexis Mac Allister, is wearing 58 during pre-season games. The German international is expected to switch to 27 once squad numbers are officially confirmed. Alongside him, new goalkeepers Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman, and Armin Pecsi are temporarily wearing 55, 56, and 60, respectively, while full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have been given 57 and 59.

The unusual allocation comes as Liverpool’s busy summer transfer window has left the club finalising its squad list later than usual. Adding to the strange situation is that Liverpool is forced to wear Nike kits until 31 July 11:59 PM, as the Adidas deal only begins on 1 August 2025.

It would be favorable to have final shirt numbers as soon as the Adidas 25-26 kit is available to buy - August 1

It will be interesting to see when Liverpool announces the official new permanent numbers. The Adidas deal officially kicks off on 1 August 2025, and it would be favorable to have final shirt numbers as soon as the kit is available to buy, which will be in the morning of August 1 (or even at midnight, at least the reveal).

Adding to the font fuss is the fact that Liverpool is wearing unique fonts for their Asian pre-season games, with one being virtually invisible. Hell yeah, football kit rules make much sense in official competitions 😮‍💨

Meanwhile, in another spot we have made, Al-Nassr's players are wearing shirts without names in pre-season, including Cristiano Ronaldo with just the number 7.

What do you think of Liverpool giving their new signings temporary shirt numbers? Do you think the official numbers will already be set for the Adidas debut on 1 August 2025? Let us know in the comments below.

DR Congo 2026 World Cup Kit Look Like "Neighborhood Team"

The DR Congo 2026 World Cup kits by Umbro have drawn significant criticis. Designed for the nation's World Cup campaign, the shirts have been described by La Casaca as "looking like they belong in a local neighborhood tournament rather than on football's biggest global stage.

The frustration centers around the kit's detailing. The Umbro DR Congo 2026 World Cup jersey features a sublimated national flag and sublimated triangular cuts. Furthermore, the federation crest is also sublimated rather than applied as a high-quality physical badge, contributing to the perceived lack of premium quality. These printed elements make the kit fall short of the standard expected for a prestigious international tournament.

England Move Home Kit Front Numbers to Center for 2026 World Cup

England have moved the front numbers on their 2026 World Cup home kit to the center of the chest, aligning the match-worn shirts with the retail versions. When the Three Lions initially debuted their Nike 2026-27 home kit earlier this year, the front numbers were unexpectedly placed on the right chest below the Swoosh, causing confusion as promotional images had shown them centered. Now, for the World Cup opener, the home kit's front numbers have been repositioned to the middle, matching the design of the away kit and Nike's original product shots.

Good or Bad? Rexona Armpit Sponsorship on 2026 World Cup Referee Shirts

The 2026 World Cup referee shirts feature one of the most amusing and strategic sponsorship placements seen in football. Deodorant brand Rexona has their logo positioned directly under the armpits of the match officials' jerseys, creating a highly contextual advertising opportunity.

The Rexona logo remains largely hidden during regular play but becomes clearly visible whenever a referee raises their arms to signal a free kick, award a penalty, or issue a card. This placement perfectly matches the deodorant product being advertised, resulting in a memorable piece of marketing on the sport's biggest stage.

While this specific placement has caught the attention of fans during the 2026 tournament, it is not entirely unprecedented. A similar concept was previously executed in Brazil, where Avanço deodorant sponsored the armpits of Corinthians. However, Rexona's execution at a World Cup brings the clever concept to a massive global audience.
