In an unusual turn of events, SSV Jahn Regensburg were forced to wear red warm-up tops as match shirts due to a "communication error" ahead of their Toto-Pokal first round match against local amateur club SG Alkenheim. Regensburg Wears Training Shirts With Tape Numbers

Regensburg wore their pre-match shirts against Alkenheim. However, as pre-match shirts do not feature numbers on the back, the player numbers had to be added with white tape. The 8 attracted particular attention because it looked like an upside-down infinity sign.

The home club played in the white/blue striped Adidas Striped 24 kit, clashing with the white away kit Regensburg intended to wear.

The club confirmed the mishap on social media, stating:

The Jahn team are wearing red warm-up shirts today due to a communication misunderstanding. The shirt numbers are taped on using white tape

It’s rare to see this level of improvisation in professional football, even in early-round cup fixtures. The goalkeeper, however, wore a standard yellow kit with printed number and sponsor logo.
