Hertha Berlin Introduces Kit Manifesto: Bans Wild Away Colors & Monochrome Badges

  • Hertha BSC Kit Manifesto: Hertha BSC has officially published a "Trikotmanifest" establishing strict, binding design guidelines for all future home, away, and alternate kits to safeguard the club's visual identity and eliminate controversial color choices, developed with input from club officials, members, and fans.
  • Home Kit Design Regulations: Hertha's home kit is now permanently mandated to feature traditional vertical blue and white stripes, with a minimum of five stripes using "Blue Lolite" as the primary blue, while darker navy hues are only permitted once every three seasons.
  • Away/Third Kit and Logo Restrictions: Away and third kits are strictly limited to five traditional base colors (blue, white, red, black, grey/silver) to end non-traditional designs, and the club's crest must always appear in its original, full-color format on every official match kit, outlawing monochrome or recolored versions.

German club Hertha BSC has officially published a comprehensive "Trikotmanifest" (Kit Manifesto), establishing strict, binding design guidelines for all future home, away, and alternate kits.

Hertha Berlin Introduces Kit Manifesto: Bans Wild Away Colors & Monochrome Badges

Developed in close collaboration between club officials, member delegates, and fan representatives, the seven-page document aims to permanently safeguard the club's visual identity and eliminate controversial color choices.

Home Kit: Stripes Required, Blue Lolite Color (Navy Every Three Years Allowed)

Under the newly established rules, Hertha's home kit is permanently anchored to traditional vertical blue and white stripes. The manifesto stipulates a minimum of five vertical stripes across the shirt, each measuring at least three centimeters in width. The primary shade of blue is officially designated as "Blue Lolite," while darker navy hues are only permitted once every three seasons at most, putting an end to overly experimental home shirt concepts.

Five accent colors are allowed only: black, red, gray, white, and blue.

Away & Third Kits: Limited to Five Colors

The regulations also severely restrict change kits, addressing years of supporter dissatisfaction over flashy, non-traditional designs. In previous seasons, kit manufacturers frequently introduced Hertha shirts in citrus yellow, fluorescent orange, mint green, and pink. Moving forward, away and third kits are strictly limited to five permitted base colors: blue, white, red, black, and grey or silver, celebrating the traditional heritage of the club and the municipal colors of Berlin.

Logo: Hertha Crest Must Appear in Full Color on Every Official Match Kit

Another major pillar of the manifesto is the complete protection of the club crest. Hertha's iconic blue-and-white flag ("Fahne pur") must appear in its original, full-color format on every official playing kit. Monochrome, recolored, or tonal crests are strictly outlawed on match shirts. The club is set to propose a formal statute amendment at the upcoming general members' assembly in November to anchor this badge rule permanently in the club bylaws.

Special-Edition: Remain Except from Some Restrictions, Max of 2 Per Season, Coordinated Through Fan Dialogue

While special-edition or charity kits remain exempt from some of the rigid restrictions, the manifesto confirms that any future one-off shirts must be coordinated through direct fan dialogue.

With these rules, Hertha BSC follows in the footsteps of German clubs such as Bayern Munich and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, who previously created official kit charters to ensure traditional identities are respected on the pitch. However, those of Bayern München do not work really.
