Even after introducing a refreshed typeface some years ago, the league continues to enforce a strict limit of just five approved colorways for all 20 clubs: white, black, red, navy, and hi-vis yellow.
Mismatching Colors in Premier League due to Just 5 Color Options
The issue with the Premier League's regulation is that it clashes with kit design. Kit manufacturers create bespoke jerseys featuring precise accent colors such as gold, maroon, cream, mint, or even a simple yellow. However, when those shirts are worn in English top-flight matches, teams are forced to pick from the five stock color options.
A prime example is visible on Arsenal's 26-27 away kit, where a custom color-matched nameset used in cup competitions seamlessly aligns with the shirt's detailing, whereas the mandatory Premier League alternative visually disconnects from the jersey design. In the 26-27 season, Arsenal decided to use white names and numbers - after in 19-20, they chose the hi-vis yellow option that clashed with the yellow of the shirt.
Similarly, Liverpool chose black for their Premier League 26-27 away kit, simply because the red EPL option is of a more striking shade than the red Adidas used.
Time to Follow Other Leagues
Other top competitions have already shown that brand consistency and kit harmony can easily coexist. Leagues like Serie A, La Liga, and MLS mandate a single official font for readability, but give clubs complete freedom to customize the font colors to match each kit's specific trim. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga offers complete creative freedom by allowing bespoke fonts for every shirt.
By simply relaxing color restrictions while keeping its official typeface, the Premier League could instantly solve color mismatches and elevate shirt design across the league.

French Championnat National club Football Bourg-en-Bresse Péronnas 01 has officially launched its new away kit for the 26-27 campaign. Produced by Danish brand Hummel, the new design follows the earlier release of the team's home shirt.
The Hummel FBBP 01 26-27 away jersey is built on a clean white base and highlighted by an abstract, contour-like linework pattern flowing across the torso in subtle pink and orange hues. A traditional polo collar gives the shirt a refined aesthetic, accompanied by Hummel's signature black chevrons across the shoulders and vibrant contrast trim around the sleeve cuffs.
White shorts and matching white socks round out the full Bourg-en-Bresse Péronnas 26-27 away uniform.
Zulte Waregem Women 26-27 Away Kit Released
Belgian club SV Zulte Waregem and supplier Patrick have unveiled a bespoke 26-27 away kit created exclusively for the women's team. Marking the first time the women's side receives a completely independent design separate from the men's kit, the shirt features a light pink base paired with dark green raglan sleeves and trim. Subtle tonal floral illustrations run across the body, incorporating jasmine, alstroemeria, violet, and gladiolus inspired by player and youth academy drawings to represent friendship, trust, and strength, with dark green shorts and light pink socks rounding off the full strip.
Steven Bergwijn Shows Off Unreleased Nike Kobe Mercurial Boots
Al-Ittihad forward Steven Bergwijn has provided us with an in-hand image of his ike Kobe Mercurial football boots ahead of their official release. Reviving the celebrated Mambacurial look originally introduced on the 2013 Kobe 8, which itself drew inspiration from the Mercurial Vapor IX Fireberry, the special-edition boots feature a striking Hyper Pink, Electric Green, and Red Plum colorway. Scheduled to release as part of a crossover pack spanning both the Superfly 11 and Vapor 17 alongside the Kobe 8 Protro, the boots are slated to launch on September 19, 2026.
