During the 1980 season, River Plate took to the pitch wearing shirts featuring the iconic Adidas Trefoil logo without an official contract with the brand. The club wore these shirts in three Copa Libertadores matches while transitioning between local suppliers, marking a brief, unofficial debut for the Three Stripes. It wasn't until two years later, in 1982, that River and Adidas officially put pen to paper.

By releasing this in 2027, Adidas is celebrating 45 years of their official 1982 contract while paying homage to the true genesis of the partnership.
