Aubameyang Switches to Nike Mercurial Superfly Boots

What is happening with the Nike Hypervenom Phantom 2 Boots? Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has become the next player to switch from the Nike Hypervenom Cleats to the Nike Mercurial after several players such as Isco, Neymar and Mandzukic made the same move in the past few weeks.

Aubameyang laced up in the Nike Mercurial Superfly Boots for the first time in yesterday's Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg. It was an extremely successful boot debut for the Gabon striker who scored a hat trick to become the first Dortmund player to score 13 goals in just 10 league games.

Aubameyang Debuts Nike Mercurial Superfly Boots

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang laced up in a non-modified version of the Squadron Blue and Volt Nike Mercurial Superfly Lightning Storm Pack Soccer Boots, which were released in late September 2015. Featuring a Dynamic Fit collar, a NikeSkin upper with integrated Flywire strings, the Nike Mercurial Superfly Cleat is made for ultimate speed. It's a perfect match.

Aubameyang had been wearing the Nike Hypervenom Boots since the launch of the all-new silo in Summer 2013, even though he switched to the Nike Mercurial Boots several times in the past two years. However, yesterday's Bundesliga match against Augsburg was the first time since the launch of the second-gen Nike Hypervenom Boots that the striker laced up in another boot than the Hypervenom, while he used the Nike Hypervenom for the last time in the Europa League match against Qabala just four days ago.

Interestingly, Aubameyang previously received a modified version of the Hyper Grape Nike Hypervenom Boots. Featuring the same upper design as the standard edition, Aubameyang had been using a Nike Hypervenom Boot with a "sole plate borrowed from the Nike Mercurial, although we are not aware of any Nike Mercurial Boot generation with exactly the same sole plate." (same case as with Neymar's custom outsole).

The list of players switching from the Nike Hypervenom to the Nike Mercurial gets longer and longer. Has the second-gen Nike Hypervenom Phantom 2 Boots a future after various of the high-profile Hypervenom layers opted out for the Mercurial and the third-gen Nike Hypervenom Boot is not scheduled for a release before 2017?
