After Changing To Adidas: Bayern-Bound Nübel Receives Fierce Criticism From Old Supplier

Some months ago, we reported about the one-of-a-kind gloves FC Schalke 04 goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is wearing. Now the Germany U21 national goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has to put up with fierce criticism because of the circumstances of his change of glove supplier POPE's to Adidas.

Alexander Nübel Joins Adidas To Wear Adidas Predator Pro Hybrid Promo

Ahead of the 2019-2020 season, Alexander Nübel has switched from POPE's to Adidas goalkeeper gloves as he likely secured a deal with the Three Stripes. He is now wearing the Adidas Predator Pro Hybrid Promo gloves.

His previous supplier ("POPE "s Goalkeeper Gloves") wrote on Sunday in the social networks that the behaviour of the goalkeeper of the Bundesliga football team Schalke 04 had "demonstrably embodied anything but the required social competence for a captain of FC Schalke 04 and its club values".

Nübel's consultant Stefan Backs commented calmly on the unusual process. Company boss Christoph Nowak is "a passionate person who puts his heart and soul into his work. I can understand why he is disappointed that Alex will no longer be wearing his gloves," Backs told the German Press Agency. "I don't know whether you have to go public with it and whether it will serve your business."

Nowak justified his actions. "One must always reckon with the fact that one will become interesting for the big ones. But then you have to be fair. That wasn't the case in this case," he said. "Shortly before he started training, we talked about new models. There was nothing to suggest that he could leave us." In a 25-second WhatsApp message, Nübel said "he's likely to wear Adidas in the future," Nowak said.

According to Nowak, Nübel did not finally inform the company about his change. Since the news he had "given him four or five weeks to settle this amicably, but nothing ever came," Nowak said. Backs explained that Nübel had tried to reach Nowak. Because he couldn't, he sent the WhatsApp message.

The contract of the U21 Vice European Champion at Schalke 04 expires next summe. Nübel rejected all offers for an extension of the contract. The media had recently speculated about an interest on the part of Bayern Munich, where the 22-year-old could be built up in the long term as the successor to national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Bayern is sponsored and partly owned by Adidas, so this might be a reason for him to switch suppliers...
