Watford Add Bitcoin Logo to 19-20 Kit

Between firing manager Javi Gracia and announcing the finalists of the crest redesign process, Watford have found time to confirm that the Bitcoin logo (₿) will appear on the kit sleeve this season.

The club will not be officially sponsored by the blockchain currency but its instead part of a wider campaign by main sponsor Sportsbet.io.

Justin Le Brocque, Head of Marketing at Sportsbet.io, said: “The crypto community have been hugely supportive of us since we began, so putting the Bitcoin logo on the sleeve felt like a fun way to give something back while also showing them our support.”

In what is a very unique and interesting move, the sponsorship is "crowd-funded", which means that anyone who holds Bitcoin can bid for public LED shown during matches (let's hope this will be properly controlled to prevent abuse...), use of the Bitcoin box in the stadium and exclusive club merchandise.

“Some of the biggest challenges we and others like us face is raising awareness, dispelling common myths around cryptos and educating the public on the advantages and opportunities presented by cryptocurrencies,” added Le Brocque.

Scott Duxbury, Hornets’ Chairman & CEO, commented: “Placing the Bitcoin logo on a Premier League shirt is something that challenges the accepted norm. We’re excited about the partnerships and the potential for new global conversations that it could help start for our club.”

Sportsbet accepts a range of fiat and cryptocurrencies, including of course Bitcoin, in order to "put players at the heart of action, no matter their country, sport, team or currency."

The new logo will debut in the game against Arsenal on September 15th.
