Haier Denies Manchester United Shirt Sponsorship Rumors

Chinese appliances company Haier has categorically denied reports linking it to the Manchester United shirt sponsorship.

A company statement that was published on social media reads: "For clarification purpose, Haier Group denies to have contacted Manchester United and to have reached any agreement with them in order to sponsor the football club as wrongly reported instead yesterday in the UK press."

According to Matthew Glendinning of SportBusiness Sponsorship, the original report by the Sun "is wide of the mark" as "United have only just started their search for a new main shirt sponsor after Chevrolet."

The original report stated that Manchester United would be "edging closer to world record £70m-a-year shirt sponsorship deal with Chinese company Haier," which would mean a new world record for such a deal.
