Man City To Argue With Sponsor Deals Of Bayern, Juventus & PSG To Prevent Champions League Ban

On Friday, UEFA announced that Manchester City is being thrown out of European competition for two years and fined €30m, due to UEFA's financial fair play regulations. Now The Athletic reports that Man City has prepared a dossier that should show off that they did nothing different than some other European teams.

Man City was banned because money, which was declared as income by important sponsors of the Abu Dhabi club, was in reality paid by club boss Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan - In emails leaked by Der Spiegel, main sponsor Etihad were funding only £8m of a sponsorship declared to UEFA as £67.5m, with the rest being funded by Mansour.

Report: Man City Has ‘Dossier’ On European Rivals’ Deals

According to The Athletic, Man City will go on the offensive to ask why anything they did was any different than several big names rivals, including Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.

A dossier on Europe’s biggest clubs’ financial dealings that City have been collating over more than a year could soon come into play. These are all routine dealings but City will ask why their own sponsorship agreements are any different.

City will want answers about the finances Juventus receive from Fiat, which is owned by the Agnelli family. Last year, a new contract with Fiat-owned Jeep increased the car company's annual sponsorship of the club by £20.7 million per season, bringing the total to around £40 million per season.

City is skeptical of how PSG and Juventus both have similar sponsorship arrangements but have escaped punishment, and also have their club presidents on UEFA’s executive committee.

City is also said to have “meticulous records” on how UEFA treated PSG in its investigation of the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

In the meantime, Manchester City is already telling players and their agents that the Champions League ban will be overturned.
