After Just One Week: Columbus SC Change Name Back to Columbus Crew, New Logo Unveiled
Update: The updated Columbus Crew logo was just revealed by the club, only hours after the decision to change the earlier design was revealed. The updated logo replaces the 'SC' at the bottom with 'CREW', while the 96 was added to the bottom right of the Ohio state flag.
A number of variants of the logo were also updated - check all of them out below.
On 10 May 2021, MLS club Columbus Crew rebranded to Columbus SC (Soccer Club). Now just one week later after heavy protests and a meeting with fans, Columbus SC announced that it changes the name back to Columbus Crew and alters the new logo logo.
Columbus Crew Name Returns, New Logo Altered
The new Columbus Crew crest will incorporate the name Columbus Crew as well as "96" inside the outline of the Ohio state flag.
Columbus Crew released a joint statement with their Supporters Group, the Nordecke, on Monday. You can read it below, we highlighted the most important parts.
"This evening, a positive, collaborative discussion took place between Crew investor-operators, front office executives, and a diverse group from the Crew community regarding the future of the Club’s brand and the Club’s commitment to its supporter community.
The importance of keeping the Crew as the Club’s primary identifier was clear. The decision that came from the discussion was that Columbus Crew will remain the team’s official name moving forward.
The Crew received Nordecke’s support of the name, which will include Columbus Crew as a part of the new crest. In addition, “96” will be placed inside the outline of the Ohio state flag, recognizing the club’s status as the founding member in Major League Soccer.The Crew and the Nordecke are excited to move forward together."
We expect the new Columbus Crew 2021 logo to be released in the coming weeks.
