Only 3 La Liga Teams Left Without Shirt Sponsor After Betting Ads Ban

Update: Only three La Liga teams are without a main sponsor now - Real Sociedad, Granada and Deportivo Alaves.

19 August 2021: 6 Of 20 La Liga Teams Without Shirt Sponsor After Betting Ads Ban

6 La Liga Teams Without Main Sponsor In First Matchday

In the first matchday of Spain's La Liga, Real Sociedad, Granada, Alaves, RCD Mallorca, Cadiz and Levante had no front-of-shirt sponsor.

So far, Betis (Betway -> Finetwork) Valencia (Bwin -> Socios Fan Token) have been the only teams that managed to sign a new main sponsor to replace their forbidden betting sponsor.

Great Britain could also ban betting sponsors

With the ban of betting sponsors, losses of around 80m euros are expected for the Spanish professional football industry.

Other countries could forbid betting sponsors as well. In Great Britain, a ban on betting sponsors could happen in 2023.

"Premier League clubs should not be allowed to have betting firms on their shirts", the House of Lords Select Committee report recommended in 2020. It said that such sponsors on Championship club shirts should be phased out by 2023 and that other sports should end shirt betting sponsorship in three years.
