Ahead of Adidas Switch: Le Coq Sportif to Produce One Last "Manto da Massa" for Atlético Mineiro

Le Coq Sportif will produce one last "Manto da Massa" (Shirt of the Mass) for Atlético Mineiro before the Brazilian club are set to complete their switch to Adidas in July.

That's what's being reported by local outlet O Tempo, who go on to say that the jersey would be the brand's farewell to the club.

Besides the special-edition shirt, which will once again be based on a fan design, Atlético will not receive any new shirt in the first half of the year, with the Adidas contract coming into effect on July 1.

In an interview with Youtube channel Clube Ligados, Atlético's business director, Leandro Figueiredo, said: "Until this period (June 30), we will not launch a new game shirt. We will keep the one we have. Even because it was a very successful shirt in 2021, and for the superstitious it is interesting."

The previous two Mantos da Massa were incredibly popular with both fans of the club and shirt collectors around the globe. In fact, the 2021 edition won the Footy Headlines Kit of the Year vote.

We expect the contest to start soon so that there's enough time to come out with a shirt before Adidas take over.

Adidas, for their part, have already designed three Atlético Mineiro shirts, which the club requested slight adjustments on, according to UOL.

The fact that the Manto da Massa will be made once more is good news as it's expected that the club's partnership with Adidas will in all likelihood result in less individual shirts for the club.
