Nicolas Otamendi Wears Swimming Cap vs Ajax

Benfica’s Nicolas Otamendi sported what must be one of the strangest accessories ever worn in a professional football match last night in his side’s Champions League match against Ajax.

Medical Staff Make Otamendi Wear Swimming Cap

After a clash of heads with opposite number Lisandro Martinez in the 32nd minute of the game, the two players left the field to receive treatment. The medical staff must have been of the opinion that he needed some pressure applied to the wound, as they fitted him with a rubber swimming cap and sent him back onto the pitch.

Thankfully the injury was not too serious as the former Manchester City centre back was able to complete the full 90 minutes and help his side draw the game after being 2-1 down.

It’s not the first time a player has needed some extra protection, but it could well be the first time that a swimming cap was deemed the best option. Here are some other instances of footballers wearing unusual headgear.

Have you ever seen anything liek this on the pitch before? Tell us in the comments.

Milan 26-27 Home Kit Debuted

AC Milan debuted their new 2026-27 home kit in yesterday’s final Serie A match. The design brings back the club’s traditional striped look for home games.

New Adidas Three Stripes Become Even Thicker Sometimes

The new Adidas 2026-2027 kits have been worn around the whole of Europe this weekend. With more and more on-pitch debuts, another feature of the new kits becomes obvious.

Instead of utilizing traditional stitched-on fabric strips or standard heat-pressed decals, the famous Three Stripes are now directly engineered into the woven fabric of the side panels. This has the effect that the bigger 3 stripes get even bigger when the shirt is stretched.
