Official: EA to Remove Russia & Russian Clubs From FIFA 22

Update: EA Sports FIFA just announced that they have "initiated processes to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA SPORTS FIFA products including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. EA Sports might also remove other items such as the Otkritie Arena, the stadium of Spartak Moscow.

EA are planning to remove the Russian national team from FIFA 22 as well as their NHL game, according to journalist Tom Henderson. Henderson is a freelance video game writer with links to EA.

EA to Show Thier Opposition to the War?

The move comes in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is the latest of many such actions taken by countries, brands and organisations to sanction Russia for Vladimir Putin’s actions.

Henderson claims that EA announced the decision in a company email. It is still unclear if Russian club teams, leagues or even Russian players at foreign clubs would have their presence in the game impacted.

An official announcement from EA is expected in the coming hours.

Although this removal of the national team would have little to no real consequences for the Russian people or the national team itself, it is a symbolic gesture to show disapproval of the ongoing war.

We will update this article further as more information becomes available.
