2022 FIFA World Cup Mascot Unveiled
Qatar and FIFA have unveiled La’eeb as the 2022 World Cup's official mascot. He will be seen throughout promotion for and during the tournament taking place this November and December.
Qatar 2022 Mascot
The name La'eeb is an Arabic word and translates to "super-talented player". La'eeb is supposed to be an adventurous and curious character who brings the joy of football to all, spreading it with his youthful spirit.
Dressed in traditional Qatari clothing, La'eeb consists only of a floating white robe with a face. This makes him appear like a cross between a cartoon ghost and a stingray. Football fans were quick to poke fun at La'eeb's appearance following the mascot's reveal.
Some found it funny that La'eeb is the first World Cup mascot to not have feet, doubting his supposed footballing skills.
Other fans went farther and jokingly suggested that La'eeb is the ghost of all those workers who died constructing Qatar's massive stadiums. Thousands of migrant workers have perished in Qatar, reportedly due to horrible conditions and little to no human rights.
