Lisandro Martinez to Leave Nike For Adidas
- Athlete Brand Change: Lisandro Martinez, previously a Nike athlete, is switching to Adidas.
- Adidas Debut: Martinez wore Adidas boots during a recent Argentina match, signaling his move.
- Surprising Switch: The switch was unexpected, as Martinez had consistently worn Nike boots throughout his career.
Manchester United's Lisandro Martinez is set to become an Adidas athlete, after wearing Nike his whole career.
Martinez to leave Nike for Adidas
Lisandro Martinez came on as a 59th minute sub for Argentina in their defeat to Saudi Arabia yesterday wearing a pair of Adidas X Speedportal boots from the Al Rihla World Cup pack. It's safe to assume that he will soon be - if he isn't already - under contract with the German brand. Until now, Martinez had worn Nike boots for the entirety of his career, going through various models before playing the first half of this season in the Mercurial Vapor 15.
He had been wearing branded Nike boots right up until United's final game against Fulham before the break, with no period of wearing blackout boots to indicate the change was coming. Yesterday's switch of brand came as a surprise, but not nearly as much as the outcome of the match did. Martinez joins France's Jules Koundé in making the move from Adidas to Nike at the World Cup.
