Man United's Greenwood Won't Rejoin Nike Despite Instagram Change

Nike have revealed that Manchester United’s attacker Mason Greenwood is not rejoining the sportswear manufacturer as a sponsored athlete despite his recent Instagram profile changes.

Following the discontinuation of his criminal case, the Englishman’s recently revamped his Instagram account which include reinstating Nike on his profile.

Nike Confirmed Stance on Mason Greenwood

Greenwood’s action created speculation on whether the giant manufacturer decide to accept him back as a sponsored athlete. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as Nike recently told The Mirror that the company’s previous statement on the Man United’s forward read “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete” remains.

Previously, around a year ago, the major American sportswear manufacturer have opted to cut ties with the attacker following his alleged criminal case.

The 21–year-old saw his career going bleak in an instant following an arrest back in January 2022. Greenwood was facing several allegations, such as attempted rape, controlling behavior, assault, and coercion.

Nike End Partnership With Greenwood

Nike have told The Athletic that they will no longer be sponsoring Greenwood.

Those accusations put him in such a difficult situation at the time as he loses his sponsors including Nike and faces a suspension from Man United. However, on February 2, this year, the Greater Manchester Police confirmed that Grenwood’s case has been discontinued due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and the appearance of new evidence.

Following that decision, the striker made subtle changes to his Instagram account, including putting Nike back on the profile bio. Aside from reinstating the Sportswear manufacturer, Greenwood still put Man Utd as his club while only keeping pictures of his playing time there.

Greenwood’s last game with United was in the Premier League against West Ham United back on January 22, 2022, which ended in a 1-0 victory.

Greedwood's Future at Man United Remain Up in the Air

Despite the positive turn-around regarding his case, there’s still no headway regarding his future, not only with Nike but also at Manchester United. The Red Devils announced that they will have an internal discussion before making any decision on Greenwood who is still under contract until 2025.

Since his official first-team competitive debut in the Champions League against PSG back on March 2019, the 21-year-old has made 129 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals in the process.
