Napoli clinched their first Serie A title in 33 years last night, earning them the right to wear the Scudetto badge on their shirts next season.
Napoli to Wear Scudetto Badge for First Time in 33 Years
It was a long time coming, but it's finally official. Napoli are the champions of Italy for the third time in their history and the first since the days of Diego Maradona. A point from their 1-1 draw with Udinese last night was enough to confirm the inevitable. They won their last title in the 89-90 season, and so the last time they wore the Scudetto badge was the the 90-91 campaign.
The Scudetto badge is a simple shield shape with the Italian tricolour and a gold outline. The team who wins Serie A wears it on their kits the season following their victory. It currently appears on AC Milan's kits.
After a 33 year absence, it will return to their kits next year, most likely placed in the centre of the chest. @Fankits has mocked up what it would look like on their current home shirt, although we can say with a safe degree of certainty that they will have a new home shirt next season.
