Australian Women's Team Kits Outsell Men's

The Australian women's soccer team, the Matildas, has outsold the men's team in merchandise sales ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup, according to Nike and as reported by the Australian Financial Review. Thanks to @AusKitNerd for the heads-up.

According to Nike, the Matildas have sold more jerseys this year leading up to the FIFA Women's World Cup than the men's team did during the whole of last year, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This remarkable feat has been achieved even before the Matildas have played a single game. Curiously, kids tops are far outselling adult kits according to Nike Pacific boss Ashley Reade.

Reade believes the marketing potential for the women's team now exceeds that of the men's team, attributing it partly to the star power of Sam Kerr, the Australian captain and Chelsea striker. Kerr has significant personal deals with Nike, EA Sports and Mastercard.

Reade added that there is a possibility for Nike to launch a signature boot collection for Kerr.
