Football Kit Archive Introduces Kit Sponsor Overviews
- New Feature: Football Kit Archive now features infographics showing shirt sponsorship evolution in major leagues, including data dating back to the 1970s.
- Sponsorship Trends: The Premier League is currently dominated by gambling companies, whereas other leagues, such as the Bundesliga, have a greater range of industries.
- Premier League Ban: The Premier League will implement a self-ban on front-of-shirt betting sponsors starting in the 2026-27 season, forcing more than half the teams to find new sponsors.
Football Kit Archive has expanded its website with infographics showcasing the evolution of shirt sponsorship across all major football leagues.
Football Kit Archive Kit Sponsorship Charts
The new Football Kit Archive shirt sponsorship pie charts give a great overview of each team's shirt sponsor and the sponsor category of each team and the whole league.
For example, the Premier League's sponsorship landscape has changed dramatically, with gambling companies now dominating where electronics and technology firms once led. The 1998-99 season featured prominent electronics brands like JVC (Arsenal), Sharp (Manchester United), and Packard Bell (Leeds), while today's Premier League sees 11 clubs sporting gambling company logos.
Premier League has implemented a self-ban on front-of-shirt betting sponsors starting in the 2026-27 season
What makes this even more interesting is that the Premier League has implemented a self-ban on front-of-shirt betting sponsors starting in the 2026-27 season. As a result, more than half of the teams will have a new main sponsor beginning in the summer of 2026.
Bundesliga sponsorship tells a different story, with a more diverse distribution across industries, including automotive, telecommunications, insurance, and food & beverage. Notable long-term partnerships include Deutsche Telekom with Bayern Munich and Evonik with Borussia Dortmund.
The Champions League graphic highlights airline dominance, with Emirates sponsoring multiple elite clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid, and AC Milan. Energy companies also feature prominently among Europe's top clubs.
