Official: Trent Alexander-Arnold to Wear Number 12 & "Trent" on Real Madrid Shirt

Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. The English right-back has been unveiled at the Santiago Bernabéu, and significantly, he will wear the number 12 shirt for Los Blancos and will have "Trent" printed on the back.

The reason why Alexander-Arnold does not wear the number 66 shirt for Madrid is simple. La Liga only allows first team players a number between 1-25. Youth players not included in the initial 'A' squad can wear higher numbers, such as Lamine Yamal.

The switch to number 12 is a big change, and so is the name on the back of his shirt. Instead of his full surname "Alexander-Arnold," the Real Madrid jersey will simply bear "Trent." This is likely due to the length of his full surname.
