Part 3: How to Make Your Kit Creator Designs Look Realistic - By Bozif, Kit Designer & Creator
- Material Effects: Using material effects, especially Weave 1 and Weave 2, can make kits look more realistic, and Adidas and Nike kits benefit from using their corresponding material designs.
- Resolution: Plus users can render up to 4096x resolution, which looks better with material effects and 3D details, while non-Plus users can render up to 2048x.
- 3D Models: The Tight model on FIFA Kit Creator is the best for realism due to its bulky appearance and realistic material folds.
Hi again! It’s me, Bozif, with the third in this series of articles in which I give tips and tricks for new football kit designers to use the online Kit Creator tools to create awesome concept football kits. So, you’ve already learned where to get inspiration from and how to get your graphics and patterns for your kits, and in this article, we’re covering how to make your kits look extremely realistic.

Make Kits Realistic With Material Effects, Models & 3D Detail
Definitely the best way to make kits realistic is by utilising material effects, which are available for users with Plus Premium or Ultimate subscriptions. If you do have either subscription, I recommend you always use the effect Weave 1 on the front and back of the shirt and Weave 2 for the sleeves, and then set both sizes to 8.
The less subtle material effects also rarely go amiss on extra panels, depending on which template you’re using. For example, ones with side or underarm panels, you can simply mask material effects to these parts of the kit. I also recommend that, if you’re making Adidas or Nike kits, you use their corresponding material designs - both brands have their own custom patterns that are actually woven into the material, and they can make your kits look extremely realistic, especially with 3D detailing.
However, many users don’t have the Plus subscription, and this can make it a little more difficult to make your kits look realistic. However, there are ways around this. If you’re looking for something that resembles a material effect, you can add a polka dot pattern from the free parts of the built-in Kit Creator stock, and then make it extremely small and give it a hint of shininess and metalness, and set its opacity to zero. Another option is to add two-coloured stripes in black and white, set extremely small and with opacity a bit below half - many thanks to the user leyalmighty for this idea! That might not look as realistic as the Plus material effects, but it’ll definitely help - feel free to fiddle around with the settings a bit too; some configurations look better or worse depending on your render resolution and 3D model.
Material effect greatly applied by applying small polka dots - a fantastic trick
Speaking of resolution, that can also be a major factor - Plus users can currently render up to 4096x resolution, and non-Plus up to 2048x. There’s not really much of a difference in terms of quality unless you zoom in really far, and using 4096x resolution only looks better when used with material effects and 3D details. When you add 3D details to logos on 2048x, it can look a little too bulky and fake, whereas on 4096x it looks smoother and realistic.
Flying model
In terms of 3D models, the best for realism is the Tight model on FIFA Kit Creator (not EAFC Kit Creator), which looks bulky and also has some incredibly realistic material folds. However, if you’re going for artistic, then I recommend you choose the Flying model on the EAFC Kit Creator - this, however, looks a little fake.

That brings an end to the third part of our series to master the Kit Creator, and I hope it was a helpful one, both for people who do and don’t have the Plus subscription. In the next article, I’ll be going through the ins and outs of how to use the Kit Creator showcase, where you can publish your designs and show them off to other people. But for now, thanks for reading this article. Let me know your opinions and ideas in the comments, and I’ll see you in the next one!
