All Special 2026 World Cup Player Patches Revealed
Born from an exclusive collaboration between FIFA, Fanatics, and Topps, the 2026 tournament features five distinct patches that celebrate specific individual milestones.
Debut Patch
As the name suggests, this patch is worn by players making their very first appearance at a World Cup. A massive range of players sported this in the opening round, from teenage sensations like Lamine Yamal and Endrick, to Erling Haaland, and even older debutants like Scotland's Andy Robertson.
Golden Ball Patch
This prestigious badge is reserved for active players who have previously won the World Cup Golden Ball (Player of the Tournament).
At this year's event, only Lionel Messi (2014, 2022) and Luka Modric (2018) have the honor of wearing it.
Golden Boot Patch
Dedicated to former tournament top scorers. The elite trio sporting the Golden Boot patch this summer includes James Rodriguez (2014), Harry Kane (2018), and Kylian Mbappé (2022).
Golden Gloves Patch
An exclusive badge for past winners of the Golden Glove. Three goalkeepers qualified for this: Manuel Neuer (2014), Thibaut Courtois (2018), and Emi Martínez (2022).
However, Neuer actively opted out of wearing this specific patch in favor of only wearing the Legacy patch. Therefore, this badge has only been spotted on Courtois and Martínez.
Legacy Patch
The ultimate badge of longevity, awarded to players who have participated in at least five World Cups.
The legendary list includes Luka Modric, Yuto Nagatomo, and Manuel Neuer (5 tournaments), alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (an unprecedented 6 tournaments).
The Ochoa Exception
The rules for the Legacy patch seem to dictate that a player must have actually played minutes across five tournaments.
Because of this, Mexico's legendary goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who is technically at his 6th World Cup, did not receive the patch, as he did not see the pitch in 2006 or 2010.
It remains to be seen if FIFA will award him the patch if he makes an appearance later in the tournament.
The "Double" Patch
Lionel Messi and Luka Modric are the only two players in the entire tournament with the distinct honor of wearing two special patches simultaneously: the Legacy patch and the Golden Ball patch.

Manuel Neuer was eligible to join this exclusive dual-patch club, but as mentioned, the German shot-stopper chose to forgo his Golden Gloves patch to exclusively highlight his Legacy status.

Because of the partnership agreement, these special patches are not allowed to be sold with the match-worn shirts. Immediately following the final whistle, the patches are physically removed from the players' jerseys and handed over to Topps, who will embed them into exclusive trading cards. As a result, fans and collectors are heavily disappointed that the original match-worn shirts are left incomplete, stripped of the exact historical details that made them so special in the first place.

The Adidas Aston Villa 26-27 third shirt features a light icy blue base covered in an elaborate, repeating swirl pattern across the front and sleeves. Claret detailing highlights the crew neck collar, sleeve cuffs, and signature Three Stripes, while both the centered Adidas logo and Aston Villa crest sit prominently on the chest. The version bought in store was sold without a main front sponsor.
