Finally: Full Kit Launch Images Are Making a Comeback (And the Baggy Pants Are Fading)
- Decline of Traditional Kit Launches: For several seasons, football kit launches prioritized a high-fashion "lifestyle" aesthetic, featuring players in oversized streetwear that obscured the full uniform, frustrating traditional kit fans.
- Comeback of Full Kit Launch Images: There's a strong resurgence of classic "full kit" launch images and "match setting" photography, showcasing players in complete strips (shirt, shorts, and socks) and often in dynamic poses.
- Benefits for Fans and Fading Streetwear Dominance: This shift allows fans to see the kit's full design and color balance as it appears on matchday, indicating that the dominance of streetwear-heavy lifestyle imagery is now fading.
Over the past few seasons, football kit launches have often felt more like high-fashion lookbooks than actual football releases. But there is great news for traditional kit purists: the classic "full kit" launch image is finally making a much-needed comeback.
Traditional Football Kit Launches Are Making a Comeback
For a while, brands seemed entirely obsessed with the "lifestyle" aesthetic. Promotional campaigns were dominated by players drowning in giant, oversized pants and streetwear accessories, completely obscuring the shorts and socks. While manufacturers were desperately trying to market football shirts as everyday fashion, it left dedicated kit fans incredibly frustrated. For us here at Footy Headlines, showing a football shirt without the rest of the uniform is just nonsense. We want to see how the kit actually looks on the pitch.
Thankfully, recent releases suggest that brands are finally listening. We are seeing a strong resurgence of "match setting" photography. Recent launches for teams like Fenerbahçe, Chelsea, and the national national team kits have proudly showcased players in the complete strip - shirt, shorts, and socks, often in dynamic, action-style poses. This straightforward approach allows fans to see the full color balance, the trim details on the shorts, and the overall design flow exactly as it will appear on matchday.
The extremly baggy pants do not look any good with a football kit in our opinion
Also very commendable is that brands have started to show pure product kit shots as the main image again, letting the kit taking the center stage.
While the streetwear-heavy lifestyle imagery might not disappear completely overnight, its dominance is clearly fading in favor of a more balanced approach. The renewed focus on the full on-pitch look is a massive win for kit fans who care about the complete uniform.
We absolutely love the return of the full look. Do you prefer the traditional full kit photos, or do you actually like the streetwear-style lifestyle shots? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
